Great article! Like many of my fellow scientists, I am showered with these invitations to become journal editor, the board, or have been invited to oversea conferences with guaranteed publication of conference proceedings… I am glad these scams are now being publicised. The schemes described are no cargo cult science, but obnoxious exploitations attempts. I fear that these invasions will become even more “professional”, that is fewer typographical errors, more blending in with “real” science like email spam (the latter sometimes is, unfortunately, occasionally done very well, no wonder people fall for it).

As always in human history, the good (Open Access) doesn't come without bad strings attached. Thanks to Hoover for bringing that NYT article to our attention at CVNet.
